Wildflowers on Sizergh Fell

There's always something to see in the countryside here at Sizergh – join a free guided walk to find out what makes it special. Our knowledgeable volunteers will show you some of the best bits; from the fantastic viewpoint at Helsington to the rare flowers and wildlife living on Sizergh Fell.

Sizergh Fell, Mondays at 11am

You’ll see prehistoric sites at Sizergh Fell and Lane End Farm, while enjoying the buzz of insects and the beautiful colours of the grassland. Make sure to bring a camera to capture the views across Yorkshire, Lancashire and Morecambe Bay. Meeting at Sizergh reception, this walk is 1.5 miles and will take approximately 1.5 hours.

Helsington Church, Mondays at 1:30pm

Enjoy the walk up to Helsington Church with views across the Lyth Valley to the Lakeland fells. On the way you'll pass through orchards, farmsteads, ancient woodlands and historic deer parks, which have provided the backdrop to Sizergh for centuries. Meeting at Sizergh reception, this walk is 1.5 miles and will take approximately 1.5 hours.

Autumn on the estate, Wednesday 6 October at 11am

The delights of Sizergh change with the seasons, so join our volunteers to discover the best bits of autumn out on the estate. You’ll see prehistoric sites at Sizergh Fell and Lane End Farm before strolling through Brigsteer Wood. After this you’ll carry on to a viewpoint overlooking Park End wetland which is home to a variety of bird species (you might want to bring some binoculars). Further along you’ll be able to enjoy views over the Lyth Valley from Helsington Church before returning to Sizergh. Please note this walk is approx 5 miles long and will finish at roughly 3pm, so you might want to bring a packed lunch!

What to bring

Walkers should wear stout footwear and suitable clothing (waterproofs are always recommended!). The walks are free, but please remember our car park is pay and display (if you're a National Trust member, please scan your membership card at the machine for a free ticket). Any donations towards the upkeep of the estate would be greatly appreciated.
