Spring spectacular at Standen
During mid April and May, the Spring Spectacular at Standen sees spring colour carpet the terraces and borders in the garden. There will also be spring flower themed gifts in the shop, and a tulip spotter trail for children in the house. Until end of May 2020.
Tulips make a return as part of the colourful flower display in the garden at Standen this spring. See the magical spring spectacle of thousands of flowers blooming in the borders and flowerbeds across the garden. The Spring Spectacular this year focuses on a variety of spring blooms with 22,000 planted last year, including 9,000 bedding plants, from forget-me-nots to daisies, hyacinths, fritillaries, cyclamen and iris, plus wallflowers and pansies.
See a mixture of rich oranges and yellows on the house terrace and pastel shades of pink and white on the lower terrace, with tulips, hyacinths, forget-me-nots and daisies featuring. In the courtyard, bright yellows, whites and pinks will brighten up the shaded area and add colour to the pathway.
The bed by the Croquet Lawn is filled with vibrant shades of red, yellow and blue whilst the Tea Garden by the Barn Café has been crammed full with vivid foliage and flowers, creating a lovely space to sit and have a cup of tea and cake.
Over 50 staff and volunteers were involved in planting the bulbs and seeds which took place in November and December last year. This Spring Spectacular at Standen is very much influenced and inspired by Margaret Beale’s planting of many bedding plants and bulbs, particularly during the 1920s.
Visit Standen from mid-April and throughout May to see the Spring Spectacular in 2020.
