Visiting Standen: What you need to know

The Hall outside the Dining Room at Standen House, West Sussex

We are looking forward to welcoming you to Standen. The garden, estate, café (takeaway) and toilets are open. Here's some helpful information about what to expect and what is on offer when you visit. Things may seem a little different, however all measures have been put in place to keep our staff, volunteers and visitors safe.

West Sussex is in Tier 4 and so we have had to make the difficult decision to close the house at Standen in line with government guidance.

Pre booking is still required to visit our garden. Check What's On for more information and to book.

What to expect when you arrive and car parking

When arriving at the main gate please have your pre booked ticket ready to show our welcome team. If you are a member of the National Trust please have your membership card ready. Our welcome team will ask for your surname to easily log your visit into our booking system. You will be asked to show your tickets through your car window and our welcome team will stand away from your car to maintain social distancing. There is no need to book a separate parking space, your pre-booked ticket will cover this.

Our car parks are open and our welcome team will advise you where is best to park when you show them your tickets. There is no charge for parking at Standen, this is included with your pre-booked ticket. We also have accessibility parking available – please speak to a member of the welcome team and they will direct you.

Staying safe

We currently have a one-way system in place around the upper garden and lower garden. This is in place to ensure that people can maintain social distancing as well as avoid overcrowding. We also have an accessible route which maintains social distancing. A map highlighting the route can be found by the toilets.

Our estate walks offer the chance to explore the wider countryside. We are asking that everyone follows social distancing guidelines whilst enjoying the wider estate. Our café is operating a one-way system to ensure that everybody has enough space and can safely move around the site.

To help keep everyone safe, please follow social distancing and government guidance when you visit. Look out for signs while you’re here which will explain any changes to how you can access different parts of the site. If you’re showing any of the symptoms of coronavirus, or if you’ve been in contact with anyone that had the virus in the last 14 days, please don’t visit.

Bringing your dog

We love welcoming our four-legged friends too. Dogs are welcome in the garden and estate on short leads. We do ask that in the Kitchen Garden you and your dog stick to the hard path. This is to keep our produce safe. There are water bowls dotted around and dog waste bins on the farm track and near the entrance of Rockinghill woods.

Accessibility

We have accessibility parking and toilet facilities available. When you arrive please make our welcome team aware that you would like to use the accessible car parking and they will guide you. Accessible toilet facilities are available next to the shop. We have created an accessible map to help guide you around the site which can be found next to the toilets.

Help support key workers

To say thank you to our nation's key workers and all they have done for us, we're encouraging visitors to keep the first and last slots of each day free for key workers to use. While we are unable to 'reserve' these slots exclusively for key workers, we hope you will join us in thanking them by leaving these times free. If you or someone in your group are a key worker, please take the opportunity to book these early and late timeslots.
