Make the most of your visit to Wimpole

Wimpole Hall

Wimpole Estate is a wonderful place to visit all year round so we do sometimes get very busy - particularly on Sundays, for special events and during the school holidays. Here are some of our top tips and considerations to help you make the most of your visit.

Visit during the week

If you can, why not consider visiting during the week and out of school holidays when the estate is more tranquil? If you’re only able to come at a weekend Saturdays are generally quieter than Sundays.

Parking

On very busy days our car park can get full and during particularly wet periods we may have to close the grass parking area. We would recommend arriving early or later in the day, and checking our Facebook page before you leave for any updates.

The good news is that we’re building a new car park, visitor welcome hub and creating a whole new way to arrive at Wimpole. There will be more all weather car parking and we’ll be adding cycle parking, coach parking and accessible spaces as well as electric vehicle charging points. Click here for more information on the new gateway.

Scan membership cards

Don’t forget to scan your membership card in the car park. Every time you do we’ll get an allocation of National Trust funds which will be used to maintain and improve facilities and footpaths.

Switch your day around

Families tend to head straight for Home Farm when it opens at 10.30am and the house can also get busy when we throw open the doors at 11am. Why not try visiting these places in the afternoon?

Instead you could grab a coffee and wander around the Pleasure Grounds, Walled Garden or adventure woodland. If you head straight up through the parkland to the Folly you may even have it to yourself.

Pack a picnic

Our restaurant and cafes can get busy at lunch time so why not bring a packed lunch and enjoy it in our picnic areas? We always have hot drinks and cakes available in the morning and afternoon if you fancy an extra treat. We have ice creams available at all our food outlets but for that holiday moment head over to the farm café and choose from your favorite soft scoop flavours.

Think Green

We’re always looking for ways to improve our sustainability and we’d love our visitors to think green too. Why not bring a reusable coffee cup with you to our cafes and please remember to take your rubbish home with you.

Stay in the loop

Visit our What’s On page to plan your visit before you come and you might find an interesting event, talk or activity you’d like to join.

It’s also useful to check our Facebook page before you leave. If we're expecting to reach full capacity or close the car park, we'll do our best to let you know as soon as possible.
