Volunteer House Host and Statue Cleaner , Anglesey Abbey
Why did you become a volunteer at the National Trust?
On retirement I felt that I had the time, health and interest to give something back to the community. I wanted to do somthing useful and rewarding where I would connect with people.
I found what I was looking for at Anglesey Abbey. They have given me a choice of roles in which I can offer my services and at the same time spread the message of the National Trust.
What do you do at Anglesey Abbey?
At present, I am involved in a variety of roles including House Host where I can show and explain the treasures inside the Abbey. I also do Outside Tours where I explain the physical development of the property.
I am also a member of the Statue Cleaners team, generating a sense of team achievment preserving a fine collection of statuary for future generations, and I help out with our successful second hand bookshop, which raises much needed funds for property projects.
Away from the property, I volunteer for Ely Foodbank, Addenbrookes Hospital, and Haddenham Library.
What do enjoy most about volunteering for the National Trust?
I have been a volunteer with the National Trust for the past 12 years and I have enjoyed my time with likeminded people who are passionate about preserving our Heritage - properties like Anglesey Abbey - for future generations.
