Find the signs of spring at Chirk Castle

Daffodils on the lawn at Chirk Castle seen from the East

As life on the estate and in the gardens gets ready to welcome spring so do we, with plenty of activities to take advantage of the warmer weather and natural beauty on offer.

Spring is on its way - flowers are blooming, trees are blossoming and birds are chirping. Now is the perfect time to get outdoors to spot the first signs of spring at Chirk Castle, and our nearby properties Erddig and Powis Castle - all within an hour drive of each other. Whether you love the snowdrops, daffodils, bluebells, lambs in the parkland or the sight of returning swallows you can spot them all with us.

Download our signs of spring trail here to follow spring across our three properties.

There are also plenty of other activities at Chirk Castle this Spring to take advantage of everything that nature has to offer. Here's just a taste!

  • Try Nordic walking every Tuesday starting from 1 March, or get out and explore with a guided volunteer estate walk on most weekends starting from Sunday 10 April. On Sunday 17 April we have a special veteran tree walk with our Head Ranger, and on Sunday 24 April a spring colour walk in the gardens with the Head Gardener. Then on Saturday 21 May why not join us for a special bluebell walk from Oswestry to Chirk led by our Head Ranger.

  • In collaboration with Sport Wales we are offering free tennis taster sessions in the gardens on 29 and 31 March, and 5 April.

  • This Spring we have exhibitions from students at Glyndwr University, Japanese artist Takumasa Ono, and the Embroidery Guild. In May we will also have an exhibition from the Oswestry Society of Artists in the old Squash Court near Home Farm.

  • We start the main season with our traditional St. David's Day concert on Sunday 28 February with the Glyn Ceiriog Male Voice Choir, and don't forget about our Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt from 25 to 28 March!
