Summer activities at Chirk Castle

Family peeping through foliage at Chirk Castle

Looking for things to do with the family this summer? There are plenty of activities at Chirk Castle to keep the whole family entertained whether you’re looking for a historical event or opportunities to get active and enjoy the estate.

Garden sports and games

Go head-to-head with family and friends as you take on sporty challenges and games in the garden. Try your hand at games like super-size draughts, hula hooping and mini basketball for your little ones, or have a skipping rope race! Who will reign champion in your family?

Wild Play Areas

Young explorers can run off some steam in two play areas at Home Farm. There’s lots of space to run and play and it’s the ideal spot to tick off some ‘50 things to do before you’re 11 and ¾’ activities.

50 things to do before you're 11 and 3/4

Get close to nature and see how many '50 things' you can tick off your list during your visit. Make friends with a bug, go cloud watching or look for wild animal clues. You can even treat yourself to a picnic in the garden – but don’t forget to take your rubbish home with you.

Have a go at archery

Fancy yourself as a bit of a Robin Hood? Try your hand at archery on the meadow in front of the castle with help from the experts. We have equipment that is suitable for all ages, so anyone can try!

Come and have a go for just £1 on 20-21 August and 27-29 August. Normal admission charges apply.

Battle of Crogen re-enactment

Take your place on the battlefield and watch as members of medieval re-enactment groups recreate one of Wales' most iconic battles in full period costume. Take a look around English and Welsh encampments in an authentic living history experience and get an insight into life in the early medieval period.

Join us for a day on 3 or 4 September. This event is free but normal admission charges apply.

Summer strolls

For a quieter afternoon, adventure out on one of our walking trails around the fascinating parkland and discover a landscape full of ancient trees, history and nature. Pick up a map from the Ticket Office… the further you go, the more you’ll discover!
