A volunteer helping in the gardens

Join in and be a part of an incredible team at Colby Woodland Garden. Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, make new friends and expand your horizons.

Walled garden volunteers

Originally a kitchen garden, Colby's walled garden is an enchanting place to work. Beautifully maintained with a variety of seasonal plants, there's always something interesting to do and it's a delight to see the little ducks waddle past.

Woodland gardeners

Our team of woodland volunteers meet on a weekly basis to work on a number of tasks including clearing to allow bulbs to come through and removing invasive species.

Estate footpath rangers

Help maintain and improve the public footpath and extensive network of paths on our Colby estate. Work both independently and with our garden and estate team to keep our lovely woodlands freely accessible to everyone.

Event assistants

Join in the family fun and get involved with public outdoor activities working alongside staff and partners. Whether it's pond dipping or running a tombola stall at our winter fair, you'll have the chance to learn something new.

Garden guides

Garden guides provide a warm welcome to our visitors, helping them to explore and learn more about Colby so that they can have an enjoyable and memorable visit. They also help us to hand out plastic ducks and nets for duck racing, maps and feedback forms.

Wildlife monitors

Interested in wildlife and ecology? We would like to set up a new team to monitor our wildlife at Colby in order to discover whether our habitat management is effective. By doing so we can get so much more out of our landscape and ensure that we protect and look after wildlife along the way.
