The ‘Segway experience’ is part of a wider sustainability vision for Chirk where we’ve already installed solar panels at the visitor loos, a biomass wood boiler to heat the castle and electric car charging points.
Shane Logan, property manager at Chirk, said: ‘We’ve opened the Segway experience as a sustainable, adventurous way to explore the grounds.'
Come and have a go
The Segway experience is run by local company Segtrek, who run 1 hour 30 minute sessions throughout the day on weekends, and on weekdays on request. We recommend you book in advance to secure a place.
The sessions cost £30 per person and there is a minimum weight of six stone, but no minimum age.
The big green plan
Chirk Castle is a great example of the ambitious green plans we have for all of the places we look after, so we can achieve our 2020 energy targets.
'We’re also promoting cycling and walking to the property,' says Shane, 'as well as providing electric car charging points. There’s a rail station and canal nearby too, so you can even arrive by train or boat. This is attracting lots of new visitors to Chirk, which is great to see.’
