Explore the garden at Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire

Hardwick Hall viewed from the herb garden

The Hardwick gardens are a place for discovery, refreshment and enjoyment. There is something for each season from the stunning summer south borders to the beauty of the stumpery and winter border.

The Hardwick garden has something to discover through all the seasons. In summer the south borders are in full bloom and the warm peace of the garden is enticing to everyone. The late spring is the best time to explore the orchards as the stunning blossom attracts all sorts of insects.

The vegetable plot and herb gardens look wonderful in the fullness of autumn, the golden leaves reflecting the pumpkins (of course). In the winter the coloured stems and architectual structures of the winter border are a delight along with the jewel like iris and shapes of the stumpery.

Tell the youngsters to keep their eyes peeled for a fairy tree, with a little blue door, hidden somewhere in the garden.
