The Great Barn Restaurant

Open every day, the Great Barn Restaurant has all manner of tasty treats and dishes to tempt you. Whether it's a cuppa and a sweet treat, a rewarding breakfast after a walk, or a relaxing lunch with friends or family.

Local and seasonal

The menus and specials board, put together by our team offer a range of creative dishes making good use of local and seasonal produce. The Head Chef works closely with the Senior Gardener to get the best ingredients to use in the restaurant's dishes.

We're very lucky here at Hardwick to have access to an impressive herb garden (one of the largest in the country), providing us with a variety of herbs and vegetables such as apple mint, peppermint, rosemary, artichokes, cardoons, sage and fennel.

What's on the menu?

Combining locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, our chefs prepare a wide range of dishes just right for this time of year no matter the weather. Think warming hearty soups and one pots for rainy or blustery days, with a delicious cake and a coffee to finish, all on our autumn menu.

Find your corner

Each area of the Great Barn Restaurant has a different feel. The sofas in 'the Loft' make a nice cosy, quiet spot to take your time over a coffee with a good read; in the main resturant area families are fully catered for with special menus, toys/ games and highchairs to make it easy for you to enjoy a meal together.

A great place to meet

Muddy boots are welcome so why not meet with friends for a walk and a coffee? With easy access from the M1 J29 and free WiFi, we also make a good spot for meetings where you can grab some lunch and catch up on emails too.

A great view too

The restaurant at Hardwick is located on top of a hill with the Derbyshire countryside surrounding. Enjoy a coffee gazing out on the view or at the Elizabethan hall.

Food For Life

We have been awareded the Soil Association’s Bronze Food for Life Served Here Award which recognises our commitment to serving local, fresh and honest food made using ethical and sustainable ingredients.

To achieve it we worked closely with the Soil Association. We looked at everything from our menus and our suppliers to the way we prepare our food.

The Trust's hard work has paid off as now 134 of our cafes, restaurants and tea rooms have achieved the Food for Life Served Here Award. Between them they are serving 14,800 freshly prepared meals each day made from environmentally sustainable and seasonal ingredients.

And thank you

The money you spend here in our restaurant helps us to look after Hardwick and continue to maintain and conserve the buildings, gardens and beautiful surroundings.
