Spring family adventures in Yorkshire

This spring there's lots of events and activities for all the family to enjoy. Get your hands dirty planting seeds or hunting for bugs. Discover what lives in a pond or borrow some binoculars to try bird watching. Here's just some of what's going on across Yorkshire this half-term.

Bug hunting at Beningbrough

May half-term at Beningbrough Hall

Build a raft, hunt for bugs and see what lives in a pond. There's lots going on at Beningbrough this May half-term, so come and have a go at 50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾ to see how many you can tick off the play list.

Children climbing on the mini wooden abbey in the play area at Fountains Abbey

Plant seeds and have a folly! adventure at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal

There are acres of space at Fountains, where little legs can explore and imaginations can run riot. Spend time in the play area, pick up a folly! map and join us in half-term for seed planting.

Family exploring Nostell's woodland cycle trails

Play indoors and out at Nostell

Have a different outdoor adventure every weekday in half-term. Get messy outdoors looking for bugs and geocaches and bring your bike to ride the cycle trails in the parkland. Indoors join 'Dovetail, Biscuit, Splat!' creative workshop.

Girl and parents playing in the mud pie kitchen in the gardens at East Riddlesden Hall, West Yorkshire

Plant it, grow it, eat it at East Riddlesden Hall

Roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty planting bean or pumpkin seeds to take home. Once you've planted your seeds head into the discovery garden to make mud pies and or to build a den.

Children holding a newt

Bank holiday nature @ Nunnington

Visit over the bank holiday weekend for nature at Nunnington. There'll be bug hunts and bird watching sessions. We'll also be asking if you're brave enough to hold a scary beast...?

Children bird watching

Wildlife week at Ormesby Hall

Spend half-term in Ormesby's garden with a week of wildlife themed activities. Have a go at bird watching, then make a pine cone bird feeder. You can even build a bug hotel to help the creepy crawlies that live in your garden.

A young girl wearing wellies paddles across a stream

May half term on the Yorkshire Coast

There’s plenty going on to keep the kids active on the Yorkshire Coast during May half-term. Come for a bushcraft and beck scrambling day, help with our small mammal survey, and get up close to sea life in a rockpool rummage.

A family walk through woodland past a waterfall

Be a volunteer ranger for a day

Bring the whole family to learn new skills and help make a difference to the woodland. Come and help us fix some walls and then after all your hard work, call in to the cafe for a cuppa and a hard-earned ice cream.
