Buildings, Books & Beetles Experience

A picture of visitors investigating a project in progress

Join us for an immersive, guided experience this season, which takes the wrap off some of our oldest and rarest books and find out why they're important enough to be saved. Head up to the attics to hear more about the vital building work that's currently going on, see some of the critters who love to dine on the books, and find out how you can support this vital conservation work.

Wonky stairs and hidden spaces

You'll be exploring the attics and Blickling's secret spaces which will involve climbing up and down very steep, narrow staircases. Due to the slightly wonky nature of the house, unfortunately this means the experience isn't suitable for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility.

Good to know...

Hard hats & high-vis vests

To add to the experience, you'll be given a hard hat and a high-vis vest to wear. Temperatures can be extreme in the attics, so wear comfortable clothing - layers are a good idea.

Adventurous kids

With all the climbing involved, this experience is suitable for children with a sense of adventure, aged eight and above. Spaces are tight. so no children in arms please.

Visitors wearing comfortable footwear

Leave your flip flops at home

You'll be climbing up and down steep narrow stairs, so we'd advise wearing sturdy footwear - trainers or boots are ideal (no flip flops or heels!).

All ready to go?

The one hour experience will run on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.  If you want to pre-book your place to ensure you get a spot, you can book online for our 11am experience on a Thursday or Friday.  For all other times, you can book with visitor reception on the day, just speak to a member of the team on arrival.

15 minutes before your adventure starts, just head to the East Wing (to the right of the house) to meet the visitor welcome team.  Don't forget to leave plenty of time to walk down from the car park, so you're not rushing!

We're really excited about our new experience for 2019 and would love to hear your thoughts, so please join the conversation online and share your photos @BlicklingNT
