Chartwell Autumn Pumpkin Displays

Visit the Walled Garden, Exhibition and Studio border, as well as the Shop to see a range of big and small seasonal displays that make the most of the pumpkins and apples grown right here at Chartwell.

Back in the spring and summer of 2020 when many of our Garden Team were placed on furlough leave, the decision was made to sow and grow more pumpkins in the Walled Garden than we normally would, and to reduce the numbers of other crops.

Pumpkins were chosen because they are such a low maintenance crop and they provide ground cover. Being so low maintenance it meant the amount of care required was lower than usual to account for the reduced team.

The plus side is the pumpkins make for an eye-catching display of delight pumpkins in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours.

Our Walled Garden boasts the most of our pumpkins with a vast display of pumpkin pyramids interspersed with crates of apples and garden tools.

You'll also find smaller displays beside the Studio and the Exhibition, each with a wooden cart, boxes and tumbling pumpkins, and artificial ivy for an added autumnal touch.

Some of the varieties grown include 'Atlantic Giant', 'Rouge Vif d'Etampes' ,'Queensland Blue', 'Turk's Turban', and 'Polar Bear'.

On Walled Garden also displays some of the apples grown here in the orchards at Chartwell. The apples are available at the shop, along with Chartwell apple juice. Your support helps find vital conservation work, so purchases and donations would be much appreciated.

Our displays will run until Friday 6 November.
