Summer scents and time to relax

Visitors in the Herb Garden at Hardwick

Borrow a deck chair and take time to relax this summer, read a book and bring a picnic. The Herb Garden is at it's most colourful this month. Stroll amongst the scented herbs and enjoy the views back towards the Hall.

The roses are in flower, enjoy the colours and lingering scents in the East Court.

The West Court has had the annuals planted. Come and see the range of colours, from the Gatehouse area where white flowers are, through the spectrum of colours to the deep reds and purples by the house.

As the plants in the herb garden make the most of the summer sun, they will grow and produce crops which are used in the on-site restaurant. This area of the garden has amazing scents on hot sunny days, sit down and enjoy them. See how many herbs you can recognise.

In the garden we have lots of area where we try to encourage wildlife, we have orchards for bees, lots of scented plants for butterflies.

Also throughout summer, mostly on a Wednesday, we hold informal sessions on vegetable gardening. Come along and chat with us on our vegetable plot as we share our secrets. On selected days throughout August, the garden team will be will also be holding veg and herb tasting.
