Apple crumble

As the nights draw in and the temperature outside starts to drop, you can't beat this traditional apple filling topped with crispy golden crumble.

  • 1.375kg Bramley apples, peeled and sliced
  • 100g Caster sugar
  • 100ml White cooking wine
  • 300g Plain flour
  • 200g Baking margarine
  • 100g Caster sugar
  • 150g Oats
  • 30g Demerara sugar


  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°F/gas 5.
  2. Place the apples in an ovenproof baking dish, spreading them nice and evenly, sprinkle over the sugar and drizzle over the white wine.
  3. Place the flour, margarine, sugar, and oats in a large bowl.
  4. Rub the fat into the flour with your fingertips until the mixture resembles an even crumb texture.
  5. Sprinkle the crumble mix over the top of the apples ensuring an even coverage.
  6. Top with the demerara sugar and place in the oven for around 20 minutes or until the crumble is golden and crispy on top.
