A calling for book worms at Blickling

Books on display in a second hand bookshop

Blickling’s well known second-hand bookshop continues to grow, raising funds for all sorts of projects around the property, particularly the restoration of our walled garden. As a result, more volunteers are needed and, if you have a love of books, this could be just the role for you. But what would it involve? Bookshop Manager Chris Porter explains more...

A typical volunteer spends half a day in the bookshop each week working with another volunteer, which makes it very social.  There is some weekend work involved, but this is agreed in advance.

Customers are often searching for particular books, so part of the job involves helping people to find them. Donations of books arrive regularly, which you would help to sort and price.

If you have a particular hobby or interest, there is an opportunity to become responsible for books on that subject – sorting the donations and ensuring shelves are filled with the best stock.

Part of the role would include sales, so you would deal with both cash and credit card transactions, but full training and help is given and, initially you would work with an experienced partner.

You would also be invited to a volunteer induction day, to find out more about being a volunteer at Blickling and the opportinities and benefits involved.

If you'd like to find out more about the role or would like an informal chat, pop into the bookshop or call our volunteer team on 01263 738077.
