The tale of the Gingerbread Man

Enjoy story time with Mrs Everest, Winston Churchill’s own nanny, this Christmas and discover the tale of the Gingerbread Man.

Join us at Chartwell this Christmas for a full weekend of activities to enjoy with arts and crafts activities to start you off, followed by a story read to you by Mrs Everest.

Allergy Information

Please note that a Gingerbread Man treat will be offered to all children at the end of the event as a thank you for coming. There will be two options available; one will not be suitable for visitors with an allergy to cereals containing gluten (Wheat, Rye, Barley, Oats, Spelt, Kamut). Egg, Peanut, Soya Milk, Nuts, Celery, Mustard, Sesame or Sulphites due to the way these products are prepared; the other option will be gluten free, wheat free and milk free but not suitable for visitors with an allergy to peanuts or nuts due to manufacturing methods. All ingredients for both products will be available to view on the day.

This story-telling weekend runs from Saturday 30 November to Sunday 1 December and there will be 4 different time slots available on each day.

Please note the house is not open for visits during this event. Our studio, exhibition, shop and cafe, and all the gardens and wider estate are still open, however, and available to see.

The event will be taking place in Garden Cottage, on the other side of the garden at Chartwell. Please arrive at the Visitor Centre at the beginning of your slot so that you are ready to meet our story-teller outside the front of the house 15 minutes later. Signs from the Visitor Centre to the front of the house will be available to follow.

There is no step free access to the event so please call 01732868381 if you have any access requirements so we can arrange alternative access in advance.

Due to capacity there is only room for adult per child inside the event space.

Please also note there are no accessible toilets in the event space. However, there are toilets outside nearby and all visitors will be offered the opportunity to go the toilet during the guided walk between the front of the house and the event space.

Booking for this event is essential as spaces are limited. This event is completely free but a ticket is required per child. Find out how to book below.
